Let me first emphasize that everything that Tom said is very true.   Looking
directly at the sun with any instrument can be very dangerous.

I notice you are located in the Yucca Valley which is not so far from
Mojave, where we will be meeting this weekend to check out Hale Bopp again.
I will have my binoculars with solar filters and you are welcome to come and
join us for some exciting viewing which will include some of trying a
binocular Messier Marathon.   If you would like to join us contact me
