The Perseid peak was at solar longitude=139.66 in 1996. Considering the shifting
of this time towards later longitudes, I'd expect the peak at solar
longitude=139.7 in 1997, which corresponds to August 12, 8h UT...ideal for
American sites.

Moon rise---set is
Aug 09, 19h11 UT---Aug 10, 06h15 UT
Aug 10, 20h12 UT---Aug 11, 06h46 UT
Aug 11, 21h13 UT (13h13 local)---August 12, 07h21 UT(Aug 11, 23h21 local)
Aug 12, 22h15 UT---Aug 13, 08h02 UT
