(meteorobs) Hyakutake in April 1996
Guys -
This is a cross-posting from our RASC net. It's from Martin Snow of the Ullyses Comet Watch programme

Greetings, Watchers!
I know that you're all observing Hale-Bopp these days, but if you could
spend a moment checking your archives from last year I'd really
appreciate it. If anyone has any observations of comet Hyakutake on
April 19th or later, please let me know.
Observations on those dates would have been difficult since the comet was
getting close to the sun. There are a few such observations on the JPL
website, including some excellent images taken by H. Mikuz, but we'd like
to collect more if possible.
In late April, Hyakutake climbed to higher solar latitude, encountering a
less-dense, higher-speed, and smoother solar wind. The comet's plasma
tail responds with a smooth appearance. Or at least that's what we
predict, and what we have seen in the few observations that we have
found. We would like to find a few more observations to confirm this
behavior.
Thanks!
