Hi Robert
I missed the beginning of this thread, but as it happens I have just sent a
message to somebody else about the Solar Observatory at Big Bear Lake.   It
sits out on the lake and the causeway to it was damaged during some
floods/storms a few years ago and there was talk of closing it down at the
time, but it still running and open to visitors after July 4th.   If you are
thinking of going up there, let me know because we are in the process of
arranging an obseving night at Camp Oakes at Big Bear.   That is where the
Riverside Telescope Makers Conference is held and if the timing is right you
are welcome to join us.
