I can tell you that LM is one of the fundamental numbers used in the actual
scientific analysis of meteor observers' data. The fainter stars you can
see on a given night, from a given observing spot, the fainter (and more)
meteors you can also see! Without knowing your LM, a meteoricist (neat
title, huh?) has no way of telling what your meteor data means!

Beyond that, The Experts come in! Bob, Mark, George, Jim, Juergen, Rainer,
etc... How about taking a swing at this one? :)
