(meteorobs) May 6 Observations

-- [ From: Robert Lunsford * EMC.Ver #2.5.3 ] --

I observed for 4 hours from George's observatory with Joseph Assmus
(welcome back!) and George Zay. I counted a total of 46 meteors, 17
belonged to the Eta Aquarid shower. 4am-5am produced 9 Eta's. These are
very disappointing rates considering this was suppose to be the "peak"
morning. It appears I used up my quota of bright Eta's the previous
morning as nothing brighter than +2 was seen this morning.

The highlight of the morning occurred at 1120 UT when a -3 blue
sporadic appeared overhead in Cygnus and shot down through Cassiopeia.

I examined my plots and there appears to be 3 meteors coming from the
radiant in Lyra mentioned by Norman.

0800-0900 UT 0.95 6.84 6 SPO 6 TOTAL

0900-1000 UT 0.94 6.72 1 ETA 1 MVI 1 NOP 5 SPO 8 TOTAL

1000-1100 UT 0.93 6.46 7 ETA 1 MVI 5 SPO 13 TOTAL

1100-1200 UT 1.00 5.91 9 ETA 1 WCA 9 SPO 19 TOTAL

A thin layer of cirrus clouds was present the last hour reducing the
limiting magnitude. I plotted the first 3 hours and then recorded data
on tape during the final hour. I was facing east at an altitude of 70
degrees.
