Interesting post, Tom! I'm not at all familiar with the theory of "small
comets", but I was curious about one thing: wouldn't a small body (say 1
ton or less) of pure ice almost immediately sublimate (that is, basically
just dissolve) at our distance from the Sun? Or could a thin carbon
"mantle" change heat absorption enough to prolong sublimation long enough
for a cometary body to reach 1 AU from out past Jupiter's orbit? A curious
question on a curious subject!
