(meteorobs) June 11 Observations

-- [ From: Robert Lunsford * EMC.Ver #2.5.3 ] --

I observed for 4 hours from the Descanso Observatory this morning. Low
clouds shrouded the coastal areas and foothills up to within a few miles
west of the observatory. I faced high into the northern sky to see if I
could catch any activity from the Xi Draconid radiant. There seemed to
be an abundance of bright meteors coming from the south but appearing
low in the western or eastern skies, far away from the center of my
field of view. Representatives of the Sagittarids were often seen
streaking high overhead toward the northern horizon from the south. A
high percentage of the sporadic count had trains, especially late in the
session toward dawn. Only one possible meteor could have been a
candidate for the Xi Draconid shower, not very impressive considering a
total of 36 meteors were seen during the 4 hour session.
