Subject: international meteorites thieves arrested

Dear Colleagues Meteorites Curators,

As curators of the meteorite collections from the Earth Sciences Museum of
the National Department of Mineral Production and from the National Museum
(both in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil), I and Elizabeth Zucolotto, respectively,
we are asking for your help.

On last day 20 were arrested in Rio de Janeiro International Airport by the
brazilian Federal Policy the meteorite dealers Mr. Ronald Farrell and Mr.
Frederick Marcelli carrying 3 (three) stolen meteorites from the National
Museum Collection. Farrell and Marcelli are supposed to steal the meteorites
during his visit to the National Museum on last day 18.

In order to support the investigatons about these dealers the brazilian
Federal Policy together with the Interpol is asking all profissionals around
the world who have contact with meteorite samples to inform us if any other
similar situation has been occurring in their or other research institutions
and museums.

Please forward this message to any other meteorite expert you know.

We would appreciate to receive other e-mail addresses from meteorite
specialists, so that we could begin a international campaign against
meteorite thieves.

Sorry if duplicated.

Sincerely

Yours

Paulo Rodrigues (geologist)
