(meteorobs) "Meteor" Obser. Aug 6/7 ZAYGE

"Meteor" Observations for Aug 6/7, 1997:

Well....this would have been a summary of my meteor observations for the
night of Aug 6/7....I got up to the observatory about 8 pm...got set
up...started my pre observing nap under mostly clear skies....then at 23h45
local I woke up to get ready to start my observing. The skies were completely
clear then. I got the camera going...and started my watch at midnight: 05min
local. Ten minutes later a little thin cloud moved over from the Southeastern
mountains. It was enough that I would had to introduce a percentage of Field
of View blockage into my data. I decided to scrub the observations for a few
minutes to let this cloud pass and start all over again with clear
skies....but after that little cloud came another little cloud...and
eventually some bigger cousins. I'm suppose to call Lunsford at midnight if
its cloudy so he can stay home. Bob is already on his way. Well...by
midnight: 30 it began to look serious...but still hopeful that this mess will
pass over since I don't recall anything negative in the previous evenings
weather report. By about midnight: 50 Lunsford pulls in....I give my sob
story on why I didn't call earlier. Well...thinking it might still pass over
later, we got into our respective observing cots and with a few passing on of
verbal info..dot decided to take a little nap in the meantime....2 1/2 hours
later I felt some raindrops on my face...so did Bob. The sky was thoroughly
cloudy..dot it was now 4 am and the sky gets lighted up too much around 4:50
am....time to call it a night and pack things up that might get harmed by
water....I headed home...and Bob headed off for work. I'm sure Bob will tell
his version eventually...but this is my story and I'm sticking to it. So the
night was a total bust....I hope to be out there tonight..dot dependent upon the
weather...dot it does sometimes rain in Sunny Southern California.
