(meteorobs) Aug 12 Meteor Observations from S. Calif.
-- [ From: Robert Lunsford * EMC.Ver #2.5.3 ] --
Here is just a quick summary of the meteor counts I made Monday
night/Tuesday morning. I observed for 6 hours with George Zay from the
Descanso Observatory. The moon was up until 0730 UT (1230 PDT) and rates
were low. After moonset rates skyrocketed and many fine meteors were
seen. The highlight of the night was a -8 Perseid fireball that left a
200 second train. I also saw a -7, -5 and many more in the negative
magnitude category. My highest hourly rate for the Perseids was 82
between 0900 and 1000 UT (0200 & 0300 PDT). A total of 439 meteors were
recorded during the session. Magnitude data and Perseid activity in 15
intervals should be posted Wednesday. I will be back out there on both
Wednesday and Thursday morning watching the post-max Perseid activity.
