I think it is good to observe at all times.  Yes, there are LOTS of 
idle moments, but there's nothing I can do about it...for now.  It 
appears that I see a tremendous amount of meteors.  I consider 4 
meteors per hour average.  My 1997 average is about 4.2 meteors per 
hour, but I still have 3 nights of data on my calculator.  It can be 
boring, but remember that this is for science, which is a good 
motivator.  If we observed for strictly fun, then we would only 
observe the good showers.
