RE: (meteorobs) Fireball mags...



Unfortunately I have not been that lucky either.  The big ones that
make you want to run for cover are very rare.  World wide they 
happen less than one a year.  If such had happened in such a 
densely populated area of the US someone else would have seen 
and reported it.

I have been observing meteors since 1975. The I have yet to see a
-15. The ones I saw were -6 to -10 mag. and I was comparing them to
the Moon. 
A Full Moon is about -12.

How did Thomas make his estimate of magnitude?

As others said, a -15 would be most notable to the joe public and probally
end up as a UFO report!
