(meteorobs) RE: meteorobs-digest V1 #517





     I've seen probably the same type of thing.  I classified it as a 
"fireball" though.  It travelled nearly horizontal for about 90 degrees in 
front of me.  That would be using the fact that I can see nearly ~160 with 
side perception.  The fireball looked like a ball with a gaseous tail that 
kind of had an upswing on the back of it. Kind of like a ducks tail. 
 Probably due to the fact of the heat causing the tail to rise?  It left no 
"trail" or "contrail" and eventually extinguished with a bright(er) flash at 
the end.  I had enough time to notice it, point it out to another observer 
and he looked at it for perhaps another 2-3 seconds.  It seemed to go about 
as fast as a helocopter about 1-2 miles away, although I can not make an 
estimate as to how far away the object was.
