(meteorobs) Daylight fireballs, Saskatchewan
Hi guys,
These 2 messages are a cross-posting from our RASC list... Second message
is a bit confusing on dates, but I'm sure Rick can field any questions...

I'd like to report another daylight fireball sighting over Saskatchewan.
This one occurred on September 4 at 11:00am CST (Sept 4 15:00UT) and was
seen from Glendale, SK (51o25'N 109o49'E). While driving directly south,
this gentleman saw a fireball through has windshield, moving from L to R
(E to W), moving more or less horizontally, sinking slowly. It was
approx. [15o] above the SSW horizon. It was brilliant blue and green. It
lasted a few seconds.
>From this description, it may have been located over southern SK or
Montana/North Dakota, and may have been widely seen from SK, AB, MT and
ND. Reports are welcome and can be telephoned in to me at (306)665-3392,
emailed to me, or sent to our Centre mailbox (RASC Saskatoon, Box 317, RPO
University, Saskatoon, SK, S7N 4J8).
As always the important info is: beginning direction and height, ending
direction and height, time of passage, time of observtion, position of
observer. Partial info is useful. It is always best to telephone
interview witnesses if possible.
The other daylight meteor I was referencing fell on July 16 at 11:30 am,
and was witnessed from Birsay, SK (and other places in SK and AB).
Coincidentally, Birsay is only 40 km from Glenside. I had a few
witnesses; enough to place the impact point somewhere around Medicine Hat,
AB, though the accuracy is very rough.

Subject: RASC List: Yet another daytime Sask. fireball!

Well, two fireballs do no constitute a shower, but they are
interesting all the same! I've just received ANOTHER report of a
daytime fireball over SK! This one was observed from Elbow, SK,(not
that far south of the Sept 6th observer at Glenside!) This new
fireball was seen on Sept 4 at 9:00:30am CST (Sept 4 - 3:00:30 UT)
first seen about 45o high in the S and ending in the SSW (PA 205o) at
20o above the horizon. It was bright green, and edged by a thin
white cloud (!). It went non-luminous for a fraction of a second,
then re-ignited briefly before it burned out. The path of flight is
suspiciously similar to the Sept 6th fireball. (Irrationally wild
speculation: did they come from the same radiant?)
Again, from this description, it may have been located over southern
SK or Montana/North Dakota, and may have been widely seen from SK,
AB, MT and ND. Reports are welcome and can be telephoned in to me at
(306)665-3392, emailed to me, or sent to our Centre mailbox (RASC

This bring to three (3!) daytime fireballs in the last few months:
July 16 11:30am CST
Sept 4 11:00am CST
Sept 6 09:00am CST
