(meteorobs) So. Calif Observers

Talking to my wife this evening who is a backpacking and camping "guru" for
girl scouts and other local groups in the San Diego, Calif area. She has
informed me that as of this past June, in order to park legally along the
side of the roads in the following National Forests: Cleveland, Los Padres,
San Bernardino and Angeles, an "Adventure" pass is needed. The pass costs
$5/day or $30/year. You need a pass to roadside park in these forests.
Otherwise you will get ticketed. This came as a shock since my observatory is
50 feet from the Cleveland National Forest. But I'm sure parking on private
property would be no problem...I think? Anyhow, sometimes I get chased out
from my observatory due to fog and head for higher ground while meteor
observing...which is in the Cleveland National Forest Boundary. In these
cases, I would be required to have an Adventure pass. They can be bought at
REI or the National Forest Ranger Stations. I'm only giving you second hand
info here, so I advise you to check with your local ranger stations for
clairification if you plan on parking for any reason in the S. California
National Forests if you plan on doing some night time observing along the
roads. What a bummer!
