One last (belated) contribution on this thread... Just a half-remembered
fragment from my recent readings on the Leonids. Apparently, the item of
greatest concern to the Space Agencies and the insurance companies is NOT
direct impacts by particles from the Leonid storm meteoroid swarm. As Sirko
and others indicated, this IS a danger, but a relatively small one.
What is concerning the space engineers is apparently the interference with
radio and electrical equipment (on both satellites and ground stations),
caused by the massive number of ionized-particle streaks present in earth's
atmosphere during a true-blue meteor storm... Can anyone with more know-how
confirm this?
