(meteorobs) Nov 16/17 Leonids Quick report
Greetings all;
Despite a curveball by the weather I was able to sneak in a few hours
this morning.
After sleeping fitfully, I awoke @ 2300 LST (0400 UT) to overcast skies
instead of the promised clear ones; so I rolled over and tried to sleep a
bit longer. Finally arrived at the NJAA just before 1AM; still overcast, 20
deg F, and snow flurries. The other observer left at 0110, and as I
predicted, clear skies began to return almost immediatly. It was actually
very picturesque, since we had an Ice Storm Friday, and all the trees were
coated in ice, rattling with each waft of wind, and all the ice lit up by
the moon.
So I observed from 0615-0630 UT, and 0642-0900, when the clouds rolled
in again for good. LM began around4.8, improving to 5.1 or so by 0700 as
the moon got more behind me. Not too many dim meteors were seen (not
surprising), and in fact only two sporadics were noted, and 3 Taurids.
