(meteorobs) Re: Nov 14 Washington reentry

There was an outstanding Laura Lee Show last night with a real astronomer
from Vancouver BC, David Dodge, who got some firm science out to the public
about the Nov 14 reentry. He held Peter Davenport (National UFO Reporting
Center) in check. Later on the same show, Richard Motzer laid to rest the
Phoenix affair with his solid analysis that demonstrated the bright objects
were flares dropping behind mountains. Richard, remarkably, is part of the
Arizona MUFON ; this is the first time I've heard of a good analysis from
this group without assuming that something had an alien cause. He also
located the military units responsible for the display. I will forward him
the airplane story in case he hasn't seen it, to cover the moving group that
passed over the city. Another investigator mentioned that more than one
person used a telescope on them. It was surmised the delayed appearance of
all this in the newspapers was to be close to the big anniversary of Roswell.

I also communicated my thoughts to Peter, who says he agreed with everything
I said except that I didn't have access to all the reports he was getting.
Just like George said, I told him the odd and inconsistent reports are to be
expected from inexperienced observers. But they shouldn't be used ! If
Peter continues trying to weave every report received into the story, he
will never arrive at any firm conclusion.

I heard the original Art Bell show on Nov 14 -- giving it 2 hours to
establish that it was an obvious reentry before moving on to another show.
A couple of calls reported something else in the Southwest states; perhaps a
bright Taurid? Many of the callers got off to a good start with their
descriptions, but then went off track. Both Art and his "expert" guest were
improperly coaching the callers to give the object's actual altitude. I
have told Art a couple of times that one observer cannot do that at all, so
he is continuing this notion in willful ignorance or worse. The
pseudoscience continued on this past week.
