Re: (meteorobs) FWD: Help Requested

>>We are high school students looking for information specifically on
formulas about meteors entering the earth's atmosphere. Our project
consists of a meteor entering the earth's atmosphere and inputting
different variables in order to calculate whether or not the meteor will
impact the earth and what size it will be if it does hit the earth.

Any information will be greatly appreciated in helping us complete this
project. Thank you for your time,

David,
Try finding a copy of the book "Rocks From Space" by O. richard norton. You
probably can find a copy in barnes and Noble book store. Anyhow, on pages 50
and 51 and thereabouts there are some graphs showing varying sizes of a
meteroid and velocity and how much of their cosmic velocity will be intact if
any as it hits the ground. Another graph showing how much mass will be
retained as it ablates material on it's way to the ground. There are other
related topics of possible interest as well. Good luck!
