Greetings Meteor Workers:- From Graham Wolf (New Zealand).
1. Firstly, thank you to all who sent me personal messages of sympathy
since my recent stroke and cancer problems. I was much better, until
shortly after my last message, when I collapsed unconscious a few
minutes later, from "flu". Except it wasn't flu, it was viral
meningitis, from a dirty cup I had used about 90 minutes before. I am
now almost completely recovered, and do not wish a repeat performance!
2. Comet Hale-Bopp continues to fade, well below prediction....
following data may interest "northerners". 7x50, 6cm f13 REFR...45x,64x
Wolf Residence (41:15:40 S, 174:57:10 E, 120m).
29 November..... 08:48 UT, 11:15 UT, 15:00 UT
Mv 7.8 +/- 0.2 DC=3 Coma= 18'x12' pa 280
central coma= 5'x3' no straie observed
30 November..... 15:08 UT similar data, but coma = 18x12' pa 270
comet last night was about 1/3 of the way between Epsilon Carina (false
cross) and Canopus. There is a nice open cluster (NGC 2615????) within
about 4 degrees of the comet. Hale-Bopp still lives!!!
3. Some eagerly awaited meteor data, from yours truely .... WOLGR
Possible meteors due to 103/p Hartley Good in early November were looked
out for, in response to an e-mail request by Peter Jenniskens
(NASA-AMES). The viewing region was Alpha 315, Delta +30, the radiant
being close to Albireo, low in the western twilight sky at Wainuiomata.
Site was ROUND HILL RESERVIOR:- 41:14:45 S, 174:56:50 E, 183m. Nov 01,
02, 03, 05, (all 08h - 09h UT) were monitored... NO Hartleyids were seen
ZLM's ranged from +5.3 - 5.8, Baros 1014.6 - 1021.6 hPa, 11.0 - 15.5 C,
and R/H 65-90 %.

LEONIDS:- Mintored from my own residence (120m). Peak activity noted on
Nov 17th as predicted..... 13h 15:30 UT was monitored that date.
13ut-14ut ZLM +4.1 12 LEO 04 SPOR
14ut-15:30 ut 4.0 15 LEO 04 SPOR
I understand that the "peak" was predicted by Alastair McBeath (IMO
Shower Calendar 1997) for 11h 35m UT. I therefore missed the top of the
"hump", and may have missed the secondary hump, that has been recently
reported overseas.

There was a strong gibbous Moon in the quadrant, located 1/2 way between
the TAU and LEO radiants that morning (NZ time)
I MAY!!!!!! have detected a brief Alpha Monocerotid outburst from my
residence at Wainuiomata on November 21st. Can someone out there provide
any explanation/comment?
Viewing 100deg +10deg AMO 10h UT - 13h UT.
