(meteorobs) NAMN Campaign: Ursids

NAMN CAMPAIGN: URSIDS
.....................

This northern hemisphere shower often occurs when the winter weather has
observers stuck inside under cloudy or frigid conditions. Because of this, I
urge those fortunate enough to have clear skies, to give the Ursids a try!

Activity from this stream sometimes has a surprise for us. Two major
outbursts have occured in the past (1945, 1986) and enhanced rates have been
reported as recently as 1994.

Below are the characteristics on this shower (courtesy IMO):

--------------------------------------------------
Active : December 17-26
Maximum : December 22, 11h UT
ZHR = 10 (occasionally variable up to 50)
Radiant : alpha = 217° (14h28m), delta = +76°
radius : 5°
Velocity     = 33 km/s
Pop. Index = 3.0
--------------------------------------------------

For those needing report forms, instructions, or help making a first
observation, please feel free to contact me.

Clear skies!
