(meteorobs) Predicted '97 GEMINID max

Joseph,

The 'traditional' value of the Geminid maximum is 262.0 degrees solar
longitude. This corresponds to 22h36 UT on December 13. Observations in
recent years rather showed a peak time between 262.1 and 262.2 degrees. The
last value is at 03h19 UT on December 14. Last year, European observers saw
high rates until well after 262.3 degrees, whence the DMS prediction, I
guess. Anyway, the peak of the Geminids is not too sharp, and maximum ZHRs
will be observed between the times given. So despite the Moon, Europeans
will certainly see nice rates all through the second half of the night.
