(meteorobs) Geminds/winds Dec 12/13

Dec 12/13
Well...last night I got to my observatory to prepare to watch for the
Geminids. The skies were relatively clear...but that wind was something else.
I some how managed to get my cot on the observatory roof...with sleeping bag
and what else I needed. I had to use two heavy Hazard Concrete blocks as
weights to keep the sleeping bag from blowing away in the wind when I got up.
But even those and the sleeping bag were blown off. Never had that happen
before. While in the sleeping bag, several times the gusts nearly blew me
over. Had to hang onto the railings. After two hours of that nonsense, decided
that I wasn't going to get very good data while struggling with the wind. This
was the strongest wind I've ever seen in this area. I think the gusts were at
least 50 mph easy. Earlier in the day at the Pine Valley bridge crossing,
which is only about 6 miles away, wind gusts were clocked at 96 mph. About 4
large trucks were blown over on the bridge. Will try tonight...winds are
suppose to die down...hopefully a lot. Also hope for clear skies still.
