(meteorobs) Fireball Watch Dec 24/25

Call for Observations on Dec 24/25....

On occasions, a call for observations on possible meteoric activity is given.
In going over past sporadic reports, I've discovered a pattern for the
existence of a possible radiant somewhere in the North. In order to pin down
radiant locations, accurate and vigilant data is sought from observers
worldwide. Past records for the evening of Dec 24, indicates an extra-ordinary
fireball with unique characteristics. The sightings always indicate a North to
South trajectory with a long and shallow path. This fireball is often reported
to be bright red in color, trailed by several darker fragments. Precise
details are sketchy, but the sounds reported are rather jingly, followed by a
series of sonic-like "Ho! Ho! Ho's!". To date, no meteorites have been
recovered. However, upon it's passage, numerous colored objects are found by
excited children under highly decorated pine trees. A connection to this
phenomenon and the fireball is uncertain at this time. Recent studies has
indicated the existence of a possible second radiant with some similar
properties during the morning of Dec 25th, but with a reversed trajectory.
This double radiant is a mystery and requires extensive coverage. Please post
your sightings for any on-going studies. Perhaps someday, science will be able
to understand this curious event?
