Subject: (meteorobs) Quadrantids from S. Carolina

On Jan 2/3, the Quadrantids were favored here with mostly clear skies.
Unfortunately, I was unable to observe since my 2 year-old daughter had
other plans for me. I did go outside throughout the pre-midnight period for
quick glances, but saw no meteors at all.

I was able to observe the next morning (Jan. 3/4) for a few hours. Neither
the meteor activity nor my observing conditions were much to brag about.
The entire session was hampered by fast-moving clouds covering 20 to 25
percent of my field. I have not listened to the tape yet so can't give
accurate totals, but I believe it was around 35 meteors over 3 hours.(?)

I have been able to talk a friend of mine into giving meteor observing a
try (maybe). She has asked for a copy of the NAMN Guide to study, and is
looking for a sleeping bag. Next she'll want to post to meteorobs... :-0
