Hi, my name is John (ON4EU) and I am based in Ternat, 10 km west of
Brussels (Belgium). I am new on your list and as required, I send you a
short introduction on myself. I am 47, maried with one lovely woman and two
children. My son has a 'cooker' education and my daughter is learning
applied sciences. I run my own company (http://users.skynetdot be/mifra) and I
have little experience about listening the meteor on 50MHz. I am ham radio
since 1973.

I just moved from the large city of Brussels to a small village nearby and
now I have a large garden where antenna will grow soon (if spring is not
too cold).

My field of interest are radio astronomy and megaliths (I have a collection
of 2500 photos made by my son and myself).
I listen the sun, jupiter and related objects on several frequencies. I
also use to detect meteors just to calibrate instruments. But reading your
emails, I guess there is some good work to do in this field.

I use this occasion to submit to the network an experience I had some years
ago.

NOISE IN THE SKY
==============
Once upon a time .... I heard a large 'boom' in the sky, like the noise
made by a plane crossing the sound wall. As I was living in a large city,
and I had good contacts with a man in charge of the control of the noise
made by planes, I phoned him to know what produced this large noise. The
reply was negative: no plane produced this noise. I then contacted fire
brigades and police. Negative ... no explosion. As this was just for my
information I left it like this. Two days after that noise, we had a small
eartquake who remind me the noise. I explained it to my wife and she told
me this is not the first time. Just before an earlier earthquake (in 1981)
she heard the same noise.

On holidays in Meppel (North of Netherland) the 22th of august 1992, I
heard again such a noise. In this flat country a plane or a crash can be
seen for miles. My investigation was negative. BUT some days after, in a
local newspaper I saw : Explosion (noise) not from meteoritc or plane
origin. I already have a copy of this news.

Other people were interested in this noise. I then contacted the Leiden
university who told me that an observatory in Scandinavian region collected
information about such noise. I will go in deep in my file and if someone
is interested, I will email the information I have.

My question is : did you know something about this ?

Hope you can sleep after that.

I am listening to you and I am very happy to read news about your work.

Clear skies from John (ON4EU)
