Lew, one of Dr Jennisken's recent papers dealt with trying to assess the 
threat from LP comets based on "far-comet" type outbursts. I don't have it 
in front of me, but I believe he did attempt some estimates
(based on the meteor outbursts) to give some feel for the threat, and he 
urged monitoring of these outbursts to increase the information. When I dig 
out the article, I'll see if that's where it came from.
