Re: (meteorobs) Mosquito repellent in clothes?

The only sure-fire repellants I found were:
 1) cloth covering (long shirts & pants, sleeping bags, screens, etc.)
 2) wind - whether natural or artificial (hand fans, electric, ocean breezes)
 3) staying inside!

If things have changed since the early 80s in this regard, please speak up!
I for one am planning on observing in Florida for a couple of weeks in
April-May, and would dearly love to preserve my sensitive new layer of
Northeastern skin from the little buggers... :)

Lew, the one home remedy that I tend to stick to and feel that there is some
degree of confidence is the eating of garlic. I don't know how it works, but
my understanding is that if you eat a fair amount of garlic starting about two
weeks prior to your expected observing or other outdoor excursions, you might
have some protection. I tend to eat garlic quite frequently and when I'm
observing with Bob it seems the mosquitos prefer him more than me. If you
don't like garlic all that much, I guess you can purchase garlic tablets from
a health food store. I've heard that you won't wreek with the smell of garlic
if you took these. Folks that do a lot of back packing often recommend the
garlic route.
