Re: (meteorobs) Question about Asteroid Collisions

In a message dated 98-03-20 11:18:18 EST, you write:

<< Everybody thinks that an earth impact will come from an unknown
asteroid or comet, but what is the chances of a collision between
known asteroids? Has anybody done any study to see if there is
any asteroid paths crossing each other? Isn't it possible that
when two asteroids collide, then they will assume totally
 unpredictable paths afterwards? >>

There is a diagram in the book "Rogue Asteroids and Doomsday Comets" that show
thousands of asteroid orbits that cross each others orbits as well as Earth's.
The impact could actually come from anywhere.
