Hello everybody,
After more than a month of non-opportunity, most notably because of
overcast skies, Monday proved to be clear, and I spend a short 1.6 hr
session trying to catch some Virginids. Since I had a large workload for
the next day (including a talk for the students-club), I restricted
myself to the late evening, stopping at local midnight. It was a nice,
quiet night, a clear (albeit perhaps not perfect) sky, temperatures
gradually approaching zero C. Stream activity was modest (only 1
Virginid) and most meteors rather faint: a quiet night in that sense too.
But very enjoyable after the long spell of overcast skies.
I did not see any meteors, by the way, from the radiant in Gemini, a call
for which was issued on meteorobs. last week. Of course, I plotted all my
meteors, as usual.
Below my data in tabular form. Brightest meteors were two mag. zero's,
one appeared in the extreme corner of my eye. The Virginid was of +2 and
appeared just below Procyon. At 22:42 UT a peculiar 'double meteor'
appeared: first a slow mag. 0 sporadic with 0.5 secs train, and about at
the moment that its train extinguished, a second slow meteor of +3 with a
wake that made an almost similar trajectory only a few degrees away from
the earlier meteor: very peculiar!
