(meteorobs) Lyrids/Eta Aquarids results
Hi all!
Here is a summary of my observations from April 21/22 to April 29/May 1.
Activity a bit more in the increase, generally. A few fireballs. Lyrids
were good but not quite like 1996. Eta Aquarids were appearing as fast,
long meteors about the time the Lyrids were finished. The ETA peak is
impossible to see here with the thick cloud cover. Here is the data below:
DATE: April 21/22 1998 BEGIN: 3:00 UT END: 8:45 UT
LOCATION: Long: 75d 39.05 West; Lat: 45d 17.25 North Elevation: 416feet
City & Province: Ottawa, Ontario, CAN
Lyrid activity rose as the radiant climbed. Best hour=12 Lyrids alone.
Brightest LYR was a -1, 3 sec train. Most LYR were average and very few
trains. I saw nice activity from the Mu Virginids that is plotted. The
other minor showers were quiet.

Lyrids still quite active. Many faint meteors. Plotted the ETA.

Observing under darker skies, about halfway between Ottawa and the states
border. Mu Virginids and sporadics were active, the rest quiet for the
hour I observed.

Eta Aquarids really made a presence this night! Not in numbers but with 2
nice very long meteors. One was an amazing 60 degree path that crossed
the sky swiftly in a couple seconds! The other was also a long 35 degree
appearing within seconds of the first one! Both were trained. A -2 SPO
was the brighest meteor. Also activity from MVI and the ecliptical
radiant (Librids). So far, I have seen very little activity in the
morning that may be associated with radiants in Capricornus.
