Hi Ron,
A meteor slowing to sub sonic speeds can cause a sonic boom. Also I
have seen reports of whistleing and/or whooshing sounds but can't give
particulars at this time.
Perhaps others on the list have more info.
I do recall an incident writin up in Sky&Telescope magazine a few
years back in which a small meteorite landed within a few yards of two
boys engaged in a ball game at the time. I think there was mention of
sound, but not positive as I don't have the article at hand.
