I have the same question.

Some times you can figure out from your house deed because often the
lat/long of a benchmark is given and the distance of your property from
the bench mark.  The city surveyor's can also help if they feel like it.

Living in Ottawa, you can aleways visit Mines and Technical Surveys and
sneak a peak at a local map.

It is always worth knowing the accurate lat/long from where you observe,
I just haven't got around to it yet!
