(meteorobs) Hello, again.

Greetings to everyone on the meteorobs mailing list. My name is Gregg
Lobdell, and I've subscribed to meteorobs before, so hello again to George
Zay, Lew Gramer, Gary Kronk, Mark Davis, Norman McLeod, and Bob Lunsford
and all the others who have helped me in the past. I've been reading for
just a few days, so I'm sure there will be other names that will pop up and
trigger the old memory.

Hope everyone has fun in West Virginia. I'm located in Seattle,
Washington, so I'm going to the Table Mountain Star Party, July 23-25, near
Ellensburg, WA, anyone else on this list going to be there? I've got my
camera platform almost finished, I'm hoping to use it there, along with my
10" 'scope. Maybe I'll see a few early Perseids. I suppose I should look
up the other showers active then, eh?

My meteor observing is usually just the Perseids, counting but not
plotting, although I'm hoping to start plotting some year soon, and long
photographic exposures. Since this year's Perseids are a washout, I'm
looking forward to the Leonids in November. Other astronomical pursuits
include working my way down the Messier list, comet watching, tinkering
with my home-built 'scope, and general observing.

For the Leonids, I'm trying to decide between trying to find a cloudless
site here in WA (ha!), which is further west and would have a longer night
due to the northerly location, or a site in NM or AZ, which has a greater
chance of being clear, but is further east. I'm looking to the list for
opinions on locations, as well as possible sites in the southwest. Give me
your 2 cents.

From my reading so far, it would appear that the problems I had with the
list have been cleaned up or gone away. A thank you in advance to our
fearless list administrator, Lew Gramar; it tends to be a thankless job.
Lew, I hope you have a good vacation.

I work for Boeing, doing computer research and technology transfer in the
areas of artificial intelligence and knowledge based systems. In other
words, I get to play. While I'm a software person by trade and training, I
know enough hardware stuff to be dangerous. I modified and built the
stepper circuit for my camera platform based on the design found at:

Other pursuits include Photography, Hiking and Camping, Geneology, Desktop
Publishing, and Multi-Media Presentations.

Clear skies,

Gregg Lobdell
