Re: (meteorobs) Chesapeake Bay Bolide

In a message dated 98-07-09 23:18:53 EDT, you write:

<< While looking for other info at the U.S.G.S web site, I ran across a fact
sheet about a bolide impact in the Chesapeake Bay area some 35 million
years ago. The site is http://marine.usgsdot gov/fact-sheets/fs49-98. It can
be reached from the usgs home page. There is also a link to the original
paper on the subject, http://woodshole.er.usgsdot gov/epubs/bolide.

I have not viewed the Woods Hole site in its entirety, but the USGS fact
sheet offers a summary of the very long-lasting effects of an event which
took place 35 million years ago. For those who might be interested, it is
 worth a visit.

Keep looking up (but wear a hard hat). >>

This was featured in a not so recent Earth magazine article. The theory is
that the Chesapeake was a giant lake and the impact opened the lake to the
sea. Their theory not mine :)
