(meteorobs) July 17/18 1998 observation

Hello,

I was able to observe from my backyard after my skies cleared over
Ottawa on the 17/18. At moonrise, my limiting magnitude gradually
went down. Activity was not too bad. Sporadics rates were
consistent. Perseids made a presence with fast meteors clearly
radiating from a point near Cassiopeia. 1 July Pegasid and 1 North
Delta Aquarid were also noted. No activity from Alpha Cygnids.

At 5:54 UT, the highlight of the night was a very slow, yellow-white
meteor in Aquarius. It travelled a long, 4 second path and finally
flashed at the end to magnitude 0. I checked the plot later and, if
traced back VERY far, it seems to come close to the bol of Ursa Major.
A possible 1997 BR activity meteor would be unlikely so far away in
the sky, but we never know. For now, I have it classed as SPO.
