Howdy, John! I know I can personally recommend the folks from the DelMarVa Star 
Gazers. But you can find a bunch of clubs in your area from these two sites - 
one put out by Sky & Telescope, the other by Astronomy magazines:

And in the end, if your interests tend AT ALL toward naked eye (or binocular) 
observing, I can't recommend the North American Meteor Network highly enough!
