(meteorobs) July 29 Observations

-- [ From: Robert Lunsford * EMC.Ver #2.5.3 ] --

I watched for 5 hours this morning from the Descanso observatory with
George Zay. Skies were again clear the entire night. Activity was up a
bit from yesterday as I counted 129 meteors. The Perseids were far more
numerous tonight. The Alpha Capricornids were also abundant as were the
Piscids Austrinids. On the other hand the North Delta Aquarids were
almost non-existent tonight. The remainder of the showers produced
similar rates to yesterday. The highlight of the night was a short -4
sporadic in eastern Capricornus. It first appeared some 3 degrees east
of Delta Capricorni and shot up past Mu Capricorni ending in a bright
burst. George called this one an Iota Capricornid but I felt the
possible radiant was located a bit further south toward Pisces Austrinus
.

The first column is the period watched in Universal Time (PDT+7 hours).
The second column is the percent of an hour actually spent watching the
sky. Time is lost for breaks, plotting, and data entry. The third column
is the average limiting magnitude during this period with a minimum of 4
estimates per period. The last columns list the activity seen during
each period.

I was facing south southeast at an altitude of 65 degrees. No breaks
were taken during this session. CAP = ALPHA CAPRICORNIDS, NDA = NORTH
