(meteorobs) Late July/Aug. 98 results

With my observations data all decoded, I can now report some
numbers out of my recent nights out.
My reports here will cover the dates between July 24/25 up to
August 1/2 1998. During that period of 7 clear nights, I accumulated
a total of 24.42 hours teff (actual time looking at the sky) and
logged 518 meteors.
After decoding the tapes, I came to realize I saw plenty of activity
from all the active showers. Very enjoyable! Much more meteors than I
anticipated. My rates around the last days of July produced about
25-30 meteors per hour...a good show! My highest rate seems to have
come on July 31/Aug.1 with 39 meteors in only one hour! The fainter
meteors (+4 and +5) made up most of the bulk of my data. The sporadics
were especially high, often with an average of 15 per hour. My best
SDA hour came on the 29/30 with 11 seen. I cant say yet if SDA are lower
this year as a few observers mentioned. Last year, I observed under more
light polluted skies so its hard to compare.
I plotted meteors up till the 27/28. After that, I found activity
was getting too high and I decided to work with the string alignment
method only.
