Re: (meteorobs) Meteor Storms
Hey Fred and other meteor friends,
I'm not scientifically recording yet but after getting out last
night I started wanting to after spending a coupla weeks reading
meteorobs.
I viewed from 0100 to about 0430. No complete cloud cover till
0420. First hour had 5 or so Per, with 3 more sporadics(maybe, at
least they weren't Per.) Hour two was a loss, I began constellation
identifying after seeing only one or two truly visible Per.
However hour #3 (0300 to 0400) started out promisingly with some
bright Pers. till 0320 when I saw a huge, bright, slow moving meteor
traveling horizontally along the N/NW horizon. It was so large and
close that it appeared at least twice as bright as Jupiter and it
travelled so slowly that I could actually see the meteor 'head'
literally 'fizzle' and sort of spark out as it extinguished, leaving a
trail that remained for a good few seconds after the fizzle. The trail
had to be at least +45 long.
The night was beautiful till that time but that really topped
it.
Looking forward to more watching, Bill from Philly.
