Welcome to the mail list! I look forward to seeing you here, and urge you to
ask any questions you may have. There is a lot of experienced meteor
observers on this list. One good thing about meteor observing is that it
requires very little equipment. The biggest requirement is a site with dark
skies. Can you observe from your yard, or are the lights of Raleigh too
bright? I live near Charleston, SC and must drive to a local national forest
to observe.
