Re: (meteorobs) Abbreviations (LOOONG!)

Thanks Paul, I works in Beijing Astronomical Observatory but physically my
group (computer room) is located in the campus of Beijing University, and
I'll apply my professor position in middle of this month.

I'm using Linux and it's very strange that the only city inside mainland of
China on the system timezone document is Shanghai, not Beijing! And it gives
wrong time difference of +9 for that! So now I have to use HKT which is
HongKong Time, +8 hours from UT.

For other computer systems around, I found that they use CST or CDT, but
with a different meaning, I guess it is Chinese Standard Time?? :)
For some of them (e.g. the CST in our computers at the University) is
+8 hours, and some of them (e.g., the CDT in the one at the Observatory)
is +9 hours. If I remember correctly, Linux uses CST for Shanghai and
it is +9 hours, the computer clock at the University may be adjusted by
1 hour.

It's nice to know that we have so many different observers with different
timezones...

Clear nights, Jin
