Dave,
For me it depends on the number of meteors seen when plotting. I have an
average of 30 seconds dead time for every plotted meteor and 15 seconds
every meteor not plotted.
I don't take breaks during sessions from dark skies as it is a waste of
time.
To eliminate dead time during major showers I use a cassette recorder
and then transfer all of my data on to paper after the observing
session.
