Oh yes, these were telescopic meteors.  At 20x, the meteors whizz
through the field of view.  My recollection is that they appeared
dimmer as they crossed the eclipsed moon---probably a contrast effect.
The paths crossed the 2.6 degree field, so only a fraction was across
the lunar disc.
