(meteorobs) Draconid first impressions
Radio detection of meteors using dopplergram display of forward-
scatter signals shows the following story so far (subjective look)
in Southwest Europe.
Until 1998 Oct 08 10:00 UT there was no noticeable enhancement from the
quiescent level of radio scattering events.
From 1998 Oct 08 10:00 to 12:00 UT there was a progressively higher
incidence of 'small' events (< 10 sec scatterer duration - not normally
detectable visually).
From 1998 Oct 08 12:00 to 14:00 the number of medium events (10-20 seconds
scatterer duration - typically a proportion would be visible) increased
to around 4 per minute.
From 1998 Oct 08 14:00 to 14:15 (time of writing) there are a number (<10) of
'large' events (scatterer duration circa 1 minute) which would normally all
be visible. Interestingly, the number of 'small' events seems to have
decreased - perhaps because they are being swamped by the large events or
it may be that at the time of writing (14:15) the activity level is
just beginning to decline.
