(meteorobs) Oct 8/9 good skies, few GIA

Hello,

Just coming back from over 6.5 hours teff observation from a dark
sky site west of Ottawa, ON. I began observing at dusk. Skies were
mainly clear for the whole session. A few clouds of about 10% FOV
during last hour interfered.

GIA (Draconids) activity was very low. All other showers not observed
and called SPO. Saw only one GIA (hour before local midnight) that I
could well confirm. Certainly was a fine meteor and it made up for an
otherwise quiet night. It appeared very low over the western horizon,
magnitude -1, yellow-white, slow to very slow, 2-3 sec dur, no train
and 18 degree path. Because of the very low elevation, no plotting was
possible but quick string-alignment method proved it was a GIA. Was
quite lucky to see it in a hole in between trees.

Cathy, did you see it?

Also noted some long path, fast velocity meteors apparently coming
from east (perhaps early Orionids). Otherwise, a slowww night.

It seems the GIA peak was indeed short lived for those who were
fortunate to see it. Hopefully some activity will appear for Oct 9/10.
I will be observing again just in case.
