Stuart,
Welcome to the hobby of meteor watching! It can be as exciting as
watching grass grow or can provide an event you will remember for the
rest of your life.
The important thing is that you were outside and putting forth the
effort. You won't be rewarded in this hobby by being inside keeping
warm. Stick to it and hopefully your next endeavor will be more
rewarding. Give the Orionids (peaking on Oct. 21) a try and certainly
watch for the Leonids next month.
