Here is what I would do:

I would record all your normal details on tape until you begin to get
backlogged. 

Start omitting details until all you are left with are magnitudes. If it
becomes too busy to record magnitudes then just lie back and enjoy the
show. If you still feel particularly motivated then photograph the
display but by all means do not let the the chores of photography stand
in the way of your enjoyment.

Remember than the heavens are filled with meteors for only a few hours
per century so enjoy it while you can. I hope to tell everyone about it
personally in about 13 months!
