  Maybe this could be a convincing explanation ! Unfortunately, on that
day it was nearly Full Moon, which made it difficult to notice whether
there was a high meteor activity by naked eye or not.

Perhaps you were hearing the peak of the delta Aurigids? They peak on
the
night of Sep 7/8. When you listened on another day, the peak was no
longer
there and you were hearing lesser rates.
